> Sift is a Discord moderation bot that scores messages in context instead of relying on keyword lists. It blocks lookalike scam domains on post, catches spam floods and raids without using the monthly AI quota, and posts case cards to your mod log for review, warn, timeout, kick, or ban.

## What Sift is

- Discord bot for server moderation (messages, names, raids, anti-nuke).
- Free for every server: 1,000 smart checks per calendar month (UTC) per server.
- Premium (planned $5/server/month via Discord): 5,000 smart checks/month and AI name checks.
- Sift Max (planned $15/server/month via Discord): unlimited smart checks, up to 10 custom plain-English rules, link up to 5 owned servers, 25-message context on close calls, weekly report and CSV export.
- Scam links, spam/flood limits, raids, blocklist hits, and similar rule-based checks do not consume smart-check quota.

## How moderation works

1. Instant rules run first (blocklist, slurs, known scam hosts, cross-channel duplicate links, flood limits). No smart check used.
2. Other messages may get a smart check: text is read with recent chat context; outcome is pass, review (case card in log), or block (delete + strike + case).
3. Server owner runs /setup to set log channel and mod role. Manage Server permission required for setup; bot does not require Administrator.

## Common questions

Q: Does Sift store all messages?
A: Only messages that become flagged cases. Other messages are processed and not retained as chat logs.

Q: What happens when free smart checks run out?
A: AI scoring pauses until the 1st of the month (UTC). Instant rule-based protection keeps running.
