If you run a Discord server of any size, a fake gift or fake login link will show up sooner or later. It usually arrives from a friend's hacked account, so nobody suspects it, and it sits in your busiest channel until a mod notices.
1. Tighten who can post links
In Server Settings, open Roles and turn off Embed Links and Attach Files for @everyone in your general channels, then give them back to members you trust. New joiners can't drop a link into the main chat on day one. It costs you a little convenience, so many servers only do it for the first day or two after someone joins.
2. Turn on Discord's own AutoMod
AutoMod is built in and free. It blocks words and phrases you list, and it's a fair first layer. Its limit is that it matches text you wrote in advance. A link that's one letter away from a real domain isn't on your list.
3. Use a bot that reads the link, not a word list
Scam links imitate real sites: the domain swaps a letter, adds a hyphen, or uses a lookalike character. A bot that compares each link against the domain it imitates catches them without a list. Sift does this on the free plan. It deletes the message when it posts, writes a case card to your log channel, and puts a short notice in the channel so members know what happened.
4. Watch for the hacked-account pattern
The most damaging version is a real member's account spamming the same link across many channels within a minute. Sift recognizes that pattern, removes the copies and marks the case as a likely hacked account, so your mods can talk to the member instead of banning them.
5. Tell your members what to do
Pin one line in your rules channel: staff will never ask for a login or a code, and any link promising free items is fake. Add a way to report a message in private, such as Sift's /report or the Report message option when you right-click a post.
Set it up in two minutes
Add Sift, run /setup, pick a log channel and a mod role, and drag Sift's role above the roles it needs to manage. Link checking is on straight away and does not use up your monthly smart checks.
